Thanks for asking about the Cincinnati Area Mensa Gifted Youth Program (CAM-GYP)! I'm really excited to tell people about it, so I appreciate the opportunity. I am the Student Advisor (and Master of Fun) for CAM. Like you, I'm involved in a number of extra-curricular activities, but CAM-GYP is one of my favorites!
On a global level, Mensa is an international organization that welcomes people who have scored in the top 2% of the general population on any one of more than 200 accepted, standardized inteligence tests. The Mensa constitution states 3 main purposes: 1) to identify and foster human intelligence for the benefit of humanity, 2) to encourage research in the nature, characteristics and uses of intelligence, and 3) to provide a stimulating intellectual and social environment for members. But that's really just a small part of the story. On the local level, the Cincinnati Area Mensa Gifted Youth Program is a fun group of kids who think fast, learn deep, and who share unique experiences and opportunities. Being smart can be cool, and the CAM-GYP proves it!
Besides all of the amazing opportunities available to youth through the American Mensa organization at https://www.us.mensa.org/learn/gifted-youth/, we reach out to our CAM group on a monthly basis via an e-News letter to keep you informed of the special monthly events planned just for YMs, as well as some local and regional activities that might interest kids like us. We hope you can join us on as many adventures as possible, but there's no pressure. Join Mensa and come to the gatherings as your schedule allows.
